Inclusive packaging design
I worked with the founder Jessica, to design packaging across key product ranges with a focus on brand consistency, clarity of information and application of design elements across future product lines.
Jecca Blac is all about using beauty as a form of expression - their mission is to represent all makeup users, no matter their background, experience or gender. The brand was initially created as safe space for transgender women to learn about makeup, and to create key foundational products for them to use in their new makeup routines. With this in mind, when designing packaging across the Jecca Blac brand, there were some important considerations to be made:
✦ The product name, colour and product type needed to be clearly visible on the packaging
✦ Clear instructions for use on outer cartons - allowing customers access to key info whilst browsing the beauty shelves
✦ The designs needed to represent expression through makeup - a key value of the brand
For consistency, all packaging was designed with two key themes in mind; clarity and simplicity - through clear text and clean layouts; and expression - through the use of paint like swatches in relevant colours to the product packaged inside.
